Europcar UK supports Fujitsu ‘Wheels of Steel’ team in charity bike ride

Riders tackle 160 mile trek from Whitehaven to Whitley Bay to raise funds for Dudley Mind charity with support vehicles from Europcar UK

Europcar UK, subsidiary of Europcar Group, the European leader in vehicle rental services and a major player in mobility markets, donated vehicles to support a team of employees from Fujitsu who took part in a mammoth bike challenge earlier this year. The team, known as the ‘Wheels of Steel’ cycled the Coast to Coast 2 (C2C2) challenge.

The charity bike trek took in 160 miles of dramatic landscapes, from Whitehaven in West Cumbria, following National Route 72, Hadrian’s Cycleway and finishing at Whitely Bay on the east coast. The grueling ride was a great success, raising money for Dudley Mind.

One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem at some point every year. As part of the national mental health charity, Mind, Dudley Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. It also campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding, sharing Mind’s national strategy to put mental health problems at the heart of everything it does.

To support this worthwhile cause, the team of five intrepid cyclists from Fujitsu set off from Whitehaven for a picturesque but challenging ride that took in Hadrian’s Cycleway, passing several Roman forts, over two days.

Europcar vehicles were used to transport the riders and bikes to the start, as well as helping the team travel back from the finish line, as they nursed their aching muscles.

Kim Johnston of Fujitsu comments, “C2C2 was a great success, with high spirits and camaraderie among the riders helping us make it up every hill. The vehicles and support from Europcar was excellent, going the extra mile to assist us by delivering the vehicles early and collecting them when we were finished.

“We’d like to thank Europcar for their support for the team and Dudley Mind, which provides vital services to people living with mental health problems.”

Gary Smith, Managing Director, Europcar UK Group added: “We were delighted to lend our support for the brave riders who took on this Coast to Coast 2 challenge. Our vehicles were on hand to help the team.  Fortunately there were no punctures, mechanical issues or spills along the way. They are already planning C2C3 for 2017 and we hope to be able to help keep the team moving again for such a worthwhile cause, Dudley Mind.”
