Victory Services Club welcomes over 120 guests to its Annual Lunch 2016

Victory Services Club Annual Lunch 2016
The Victory Services Club (VSC) welcomed over 120 guests to its Annual Lunch 2016 on 21st September, attracting military charities, including Help for Heroes, Veterans Aid, Blind Veterans and the Army Benevolent Fund.  In addition, there were a large number of military Associations and Serving Personnel present, who all help to deliver welfare support to the serving and retired members of the Armed Forces, and their families.  The senior guests were The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Steve Summers, and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Kate McCarthy.

To start the lunchtime event, Rear Admiral Mike Kimmons CB, who is the Chairman of the Victory Services Club, hosted a drinks reception in the venue’s newly refurbished El Alamein & Trafalgar Suite, where guests were able to enjoy music played by an ensemble from the Band of the Welsh Guards, and a glass of prosecco and a selection of canapés.

Guests were then escorted to the Carisbrooke Hall where they were served a three-course lunch which included dishes such as gin & juniper Scottish salmon, kiln roast salmon pâté, heritage beetroot, capers & dill scone, followed by corn fed chicken supreme with wild mushroom and Applewood cheddar farce, parma ham, sweet potato fondant, baby carrots and griddled leek.  The dessert was Crème Brulee, with seasonal berries, honeycomb and raspberry sorbet.  The lunch was followed by a Loyal Toast to Her Majesty the Queen, and a Toast to HRH Duchess of Cornwall, who is the Club’s Patron-in-Chief.

Rear Admiral Mike Kimmons formally welcomed guests to the Club and explained that the Victory Services Club is a unique club, which possesses a special atmosphere, with an absolute commitment to providing value, service and courtesy to our all ranks membership and guests.  Air Commodore Nigel Beet CBE, CEO of the VSC, then focused on the Club’s charitable objectives, membership and a continuing commitment to support the serving and retired members of the UK Armed forces, and their families.

Nigel Beet says: “Our Annual Lunch is a very important occasion for the Club and the day was an excellent opportunity to confirm our support for the UK Armed Forces and their families.  The Club is able to provide a mix of free weekends to serving personnel and their immediate families who are recommended to us by military charities, or the Unit’s Welfare staff, and to offer subsidised bedroom rates for individuals returning from overseas deployments.  Through this lunch many more charities are aware of how the Victory Services Club can deliver an excellent lunch, in impressive surroundings, with dedicated staff and that we would be a perfect venue to support fundraising activities, or be a Central London location for meetings and conferences. We have been thrilled with the positive response we have already received from the event.”

The VSC’s programme of Annual Lunches started in 2011 and aims to promote awareness of the Club’s charitable objectives of encouraging esprit de corps activities within the military. These objectives include providing tri-service, all ranks military personnel with excellent facilities and a place to meet and associate with each other and providing assistance in relieving need, hardship or distress among serving personnel, veterans and their families through its Respite & Welfare Breaks scheme.
