Andy Murray’s recent victories at Wimbledon and the Olympics, combined with last year’s Davis Cup win, means Britain is the current envy of the tennis world, and fans can discover the secrets of the nation’s success at an exclusive academy being hosted by Davis Cup captain Leon Smith at Spain’s La Manga Club this autumn.

Smith has masterminded a major shift in Britain’s tennis fortunes since taking over the captaincy in 2010, and he will give a full assessment of the recent success at a ‘Special La Manga Club Tennis Academy Week with Leon Smith’ at the resort from October 17-21.

As well as starting each day with an on-court presentation, the British tennis supremo will be offering advice, tuition and tips to help players improve their techniques at La Manga Club – the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association. And to cap a memorable week, academy attendees will have the chance to enjoy a gala dinner hosted by Smith, where he will offer a rare and personal insight into the British team’s remarkable journey in world team tennis from European also-rans to Davis Cup champions.

In addition to a 40-minute video presentation, there will also be a Q & A session with the GB captain before guests are treated to a lavish dinner at La Manga Club’s acclaimed Amapola Restaurant. Tickets for the evening are also available to hotel guest and resort residents and are priced at €90 for adults and €40 for children under-12.

Smith said: “La Manga Club has some of the best tennis facilities in the world and it has played an important part in helping our players excel on the international stage, and to deliver one of the most successful periods ever in British tennis.

“The training environment at the resort is second to none. The players love coming here and I’m delighted to have this opportunity to give tennis lovers the chance to not only train here but also gain a real insight and understanding of our methods and approach that helped us to win the Davis Cup.”

Packages for the October camp feature five nights’ accommodation in La Manga Club’s five-star Hotel Principe Felipe or four-star Las Lomas Village including breakfast and access to the five-star Spa La Manga Club’s fitness centre, indoor pool, saunas and steam rooms.

With an average of more than 300 days’ sunshine a year, La Manga Club offers the perfect destination for professional and amateur tennis players to work on all aspects of their technique under sunny skies at the venue’s outstanding 28-court academy.

Featuring 20 clay courts, four hard courts and four on artificial grass, the academy boasts some of the finest tennis facilities in Europe and a wide range of academies are available to guests of all ages to improve their racquet skills.

In addition to tennis, La Manga Club’s extensive facilities also include three 18-hole golf courses and a Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only one of its kind in mainland Spain – a High Performance Sports Centre and 2,000m² spa and fitness complex. There is also a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
