Brewery behemoths take to the stage at PUB16

PUB16 has announced a line-up of leading industry experts to participate in two days of insightful and inspiring seminars, covering some of the hottest topics concerning pub owners and operators.
The only show dedicated to the UK pub industry, PUB16 is returning for a second year on 9 and 10 February at London’s Olympia and will feature two dedicated seminar areas, the PUB16 Theatre and the brand new Recruit – Train – Retain stage, as well as presenting a range of workshops, tasting sessions and networking bars

Three of the UK’s biggest breweries will be taking to the stage of the PUB16 Theatre for day one’s keynote talk, ‘Clash of the Titans’.

Chaired by owner of The Draft House group, Charlie McVeigh, the session will focus on tips for tapping into consumer lifestyle trends to build a brand and what publicans can learn from these brewery behemoths.Charlie will be joined on stage by Gareth Bath, BrewDog’s UK head of sales and Nick Miller, managing director of Meantime Brewing Co for this unmissable insight into what it takes to be the best.

Day two will offer attendees an up to date view of the wider pub industry with a ‘State of the Nation’ discussion chaired by Kate Nicholls, chief executive of ALMR. Along with Brigid Simmonds from the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and Anthony Pender, Chair of the British Institute of Inkeeping (BII) Kate will give an in-depth presentation charting the fortunes of the pub industry, discussing the impact of Conservative party policy, community asset pubs, the living wage and MROs as well as opportunities in 2016.

Owners and operators will be able to learn how they can tap into profits through beer sales with ‘Taking Things Up A Gear With Beer’, hosted by beer sommelier and journalist Sophie Atherton, who is also running her own bar at PUB16. Sophie will be picking the brains of the industry’s brightest beer boffins including Roger Protz, Justin Hawke and Doreen Joy Barber from Five Points Brewing to discuss everything from quality issues and training to upselling and getting the most out of British-brewed ales and lagers.

Also on the menu is a dedicated talk on the increasing need to draw revenue from food sales hosted by founder of Anglian Country Inns, James Nye, with the Seafood Pub Company, Street Food Union and WE ARE Spectacular all on hand to offer their advice; a design and renovation seminar with experts from Concorde BGW, Marstons, RJR Creative and Harrisons Designs; top tips on winning the daytime customer with Paul Charity from Propel, marketing expert Alexandra Bertram from Custard Communications and Paul Hennessy from Sawdays and advice for landlords thinking of breaking away from pubcos and going it alone.
