Arundel Castle in West Sussex enjoyed its best year on record in 2015, welcoming almost 170,000 visitors during its open season - an 8% increase on 2014.
The highlight of its events calendar, the week-long Jousting and Medieval Tournament proved to be a particular record breaker this year, attracting more than 2,400 visitors on Saturday 25 July – the most visitors that have ever walked through the Castle gates in one day.

2015 also recorded the best visitor feedback with 98% of survey respondents stating they would recommend Arundel Castle to their friends and family.

Steeped in 1,000 years of history, Arundel Castle has been open to visitors for more than 200 years. With a packed events calendar of historical showcases and 40 acres of stunning grounds and gardens, the Castle continues to attract visitors from far and wide.

The gardens at Arundel Castle continue to be a big hit with visitors; nearly 40% of the 2015 visitor survey respondents highlighted them as their favourite aspect of their visit. Arundel Castle also holds a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and is listed on the site as the number one thing to do in Arundel out of 24 attractions. Of the nearly 1,400 reviews, 95% rate the attraction as either ‘very good’ (25%) or ‘excellent’ (70%).

Castle Manager Bryan McDonald commented: “We are overjoyed by this year’s results, especially considering how many wet days we suffered during summer. The compliments that we receive in the visitor survey, on TripAdvisor and in person are testament to the extremely hard work of our wonderful guides, garden team, chefs, events team and maintenance and conservation staff who all work tirelessly to create memorable experiences for all Castle visitors”.

“On behalf of the whole team I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone that has visited and supported Arundel Castle this year. We are looking forward to a fantastic 2016 with new events and huge floral displays in the gardens. We urge anyone who hasn’t visited us before, or not for a while, to make 2016 the year they come and see us!”

The Castle will re-open on Friday 25 March 2016 and will be open Tuesdays to Sundays inclusive, May Bank Holiday Mondays & August Mondays until Sunday 30 October 2016. Tickets are priced from £9.
