RIBA Venues looks to the future of London’s skyline with Gleeds charity fundraiser

The Florence Hall at RIBA Venues
RIBA Venues, the conference and events arm of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), today announces that it will host a charity auction for global property and construction consultancy Gleeds, to mark the organisation’s 130th year.   Gleeds has partnered with the UK’s leading architects to commission unique pieces of art which illustrate visions of the London skyline in the year 2145, with each piece being auctioned on the night to raise funds for educational charity The Transformation Trust.

The event, which will be held in RIBA Venue’s Florence Hall on 3rd December 2015, will be attended by 130 guests including some of the industry’s foremost architects.

Honorary Fellow of the RIBA and Chairman for Gleeds Worldwide Richard Steer says: “We are very much looking forward to the event. Florence Hall is a fantastic space, which complements the calibre of artwork we’ll be exhibiting for auction.”

He adds: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve had from architects, and are lucky enough to have entries from the likes of Sunand Prasad, Ken Shuttleworth and a number of submissions from RIBA Vice President Caroline Buckingham’s practice, HLM. We’re hopeful that the evening will go a considerable way in funding The Transformation Trust’s Inspire US 2016 programme.”

Inspire US 2016 will see 20 sixth form politics students work as campaign interns for the two national parties for the closing fortnight of the US presidential elections. All from underprivileged backgrounds, the students will compete to secure their place on this opportunity of a lifetime trip, helping them stand out from their peers when applying to university, and potentially even paving the way to future political careers.

Stephanie Ellrott, Head of Venues at RIBA Venues, adds: “I’m delighted to be hosting this event for Gleeds. The architectural focus makes it the perfect match for RIBA Venues, and it is great to be able to support a good cause such as The Transformation Trust.”
