The sun’s out – enjoy the best summer events along the Thames

Enjoy a number of summer events along the river with MBNA Thames Clippers this August. The river bus service connects London’s fantastic locations which are host to some of this summer’s best events.
Pick up a River Roamer ticket to take advantage of unlimited hop-on/hop-off travelling in style down the river. MBNA Thames Clippers is the fastest and most frequent fleet on the river, providing passengers with the opportunity to take in the London skyline from the river along the way.

• Southbank Centre’s Urban Beach – hop off MBNA Thames Clippers at London Eye pier for the Southbank to make the most of the summer sun at London’s very own urban beach (open until 7 September). With the sound of lapping water, (hopefully) soaring temperatures, lounging deck chairs and enough sand to build the biggest of sandcastles you really can transport yourself to somewhere far away whilst being in the heart of the Capital. The beach is a short walk from numerous restaurants and food markets to regain some energy after a hard day’s sunbathing.

• London Wonderground Festival – leave real life behind and step in to the ‘the playground for the people’, a world of laughter and fun at London’s Wonderground Festival, also on the Southbank until 27 September. An eclectic mix of cabaret, circus, comedy, music and kids’ shows, there is something for everyone inside this 1920s Paradiso Spiegeltent. In between the action, you can enjoy a number of indoor and outdoor bars and a delicious selection of food.

• More London Free Festival – cruise a little further along the river to Tower Bridge where you can enjoy an impressive line-up of free events and performances in the concrete amphitheatre below the Mayor’s office (until 30 August). The Free Festival: Theatre offers a free, action packed, open air theatre season exploring how our ancient ancestors saw the muddle that peace brings - in both comedy and drama. A pop-up restaurant offering food and drink inspired by the French Riviera and Miami is sure to provide a unique dining experience too.

• Tall Ship Island – this August bank holiday (28-31 August), sail to Greenwich where two world famous Tall Ships will dominate the Greenwich and Docklands skyline. Exclusive combination tickets offer the chance to sail down the river with MBNA Thames Clippers before exploring the decks and rigging of the Santa Maria Manuela all the way from Portugal and the Dar Mlodziezy from Poland. Tickets are available from £10 per child and £20 per adult.
