Sustainable Events Summit 2015 Speaker programme unveiled

This year’s Sustainable Events Summit, taking place on Monday 6 July at the QEII Conference Centre in London, will bring together the shared experiences and expertise of meetings and event organisers, corporate brands and agencies from across the globe.  In a stimulating day of plenary sessions, table-top discussions and interactive presentations, speakers and delegates will explore the future of sustainability within the events industry.

The opening plenary, which will be chaired by Nadine Dereza and will include input from Cerespo in Japan and the Thailand Conference and Exhibition Bureau, will look at global trends in sustainability and how the UK compares to overseas markets and will debate if sustainability is the way to ensure economic recognition.

Following this, in a series of practical ‘gloves off’ table-top sessions, sustainability experts from  Samsung, Green Shoot Pacific, Goodwood, Vista, Smyle and Positive Impact to name only a few, will take part in interactive discussions that will give delegates practical tools and ideas to take away with them.

In 2015, the Sustainable Events Summit is again working in partnership with Speaker’s Corner and this year three of the agency’s speakers will present – Chris Hines MBE, formerly the Director of Sustainability at The Eden Project; Daniel Ritterband, reputation management specialist and advisor to the Mayor of London; and former international rugby player John Steele who, amongst other roles, is currently the  Group Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust and the Chairman of the English Institute of Sport.

The afternoon programme will start with three presentations where the audience will be able to rotate to attend two of these sessions.  Focusing on topics such as raising the volume of communication, increasing education in sustainability and creating the right culture, speakers such as Paul Stoddart from Capita and Sharon Rudd from Vista will be on the platform.

The closing plenary will look at why sustainability is vital for the corporate planner.  Christabel Sadgrove from Samsung and Ulrika Mårtensson from Visit Copenhagen will share their views and expertise with the audience.

Speaking at the launch of the speaker programme, Fiona Pelham of Sustainable Events and Positive Impact said:  “This year’s brief from our Founding Partners and Sponsors was to bring together not only speakers who could visualise the sustainability landscape ahead, but also experts with real, hands-on knowledge and tools that they could pass on to our delegates.  We are therefore delighted that the 2015 Summit programme incorporates not only the wealth of experience we have in the UK, but also that from our colleagues in the meetings and events sectors from overseas.  Sharing experiences across the globe, and turning them into real solutions, is what the Summit is all about.”

Echoing this, co-founder of the Sustainable Events Summit Rick Stainton of Smyle said:  “Over the past three Summits we have seen the depth of knowledge in this sector grow and develop.  Primarily this is because of the willingness of corporate brands, agencies and organisers to share their expertise at events such as the Summit.  This year we take learnings from the first two years and so take this engagement to a new level with challenging thought-leadership debates as well as sessions on the nitty-gritty of organising a sustainable event.”

Speakers include: Samsung, Thomson Reuters, Goodwood, British Fashion Council, Capita plus many more.  Delegates include: Barclays, Black Tomato, BBCevents, London & Partners, George P Johnson, Banks Sadler, DRP, ExCeL London, Belron, Roche, Sportsworld, GES, Smart Group, Hurlingham Club
