Belfast Waterfront expansion plans revealed to leading Belfast Ambassadors

Belfast Waterfront expansion plans
With fewer than 500 days to the opening of its new 4,000m2 extension in Spring 2016, Belfast Waterfront Conference and Exhibition Centre in partnership with Visit Belfast kicked off 2015 with an Ambassador Evening at the city’s stunning riverside venue.
Belfast Waterfront and Visit Belfast both recognise and acknowledge the invaluable role conference Ambassadors play in building the international profile and thus the economic wellbeing of city.

Indeed in 2013/14 Belfast Ambassadors helped Visit Belfast to win conferences with over 28,000 delegates staying for 86,000 bed nights and generating almost £38m for the local economy. Furthermore over a staggering 70% of all major conferences are secured with the support of an Ambassador.

The Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Nichola Mallon was delighted to welcome so many leading figures considering bringing their event to the city, and commented: “There’s never been a better time to visit our exciting city as we embark on the next momentous chapter in becoming a world-class business tourism destination with the extension of Belfast Waterfront as an international conference centre. Together with the invaluable work of our city’s Ambassadors, we will prove a formidable team in promoting Belfast as a leading destination for business tourism.”

Mr Mark Taylor, Consultant General and Hepatobiliary Surgeon, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and an invaluable Belfast Ambassador added: “Belfast is a fantastic place to host medical conferences. I am privileged to be affiliated with the excellent work Visit Belfast do through the Ambassador programme. We hosted one of the most successful Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS) Annual Conferences in 2011. This was followed by the inaugural “All Ireland AUGIS meeting” in 2013. The highly impressive Visit Belfast team pulled out all the stops to ensure that every delegate experienced the very best Belfast has to offer.”

“The extension of the Belfast Waterfront will allow Belfast to be a front runner in attracting major medical conferences (1000 plus delegates). I am particularly delighted that the Association of Surgeons of GB and Ireland conference (ASGBI, 1500 delegates) will be the first to benefit from this major expansion at the Waterfront in 2016.”

The new £29.5m state-of-the-art extension will seamlessly integrate with the existing facility and see its conferencing facilities double in size to almost 7,000m2. With cutting-edge technology and intuitively designed meeting space the new centre will go above and beyond to enhance the customer experience.

Demand for the Belfast Waterfront lies not only in its ability to address both technical and functional capacities for even the most complex events, but its international reputation for delivering outstanding service will see many existing clients returning to the new facility.
