Venuemasters ‘Deliver Service Excellence’ at 2014 Conference

Annual event attracts 100 delegates from 30+ different academic venues

Venuemasters, the UK’s leading consortium representing over 70 academic venues last month hosted their annual conference at Telford Innovation Campus in Shropshire on 19 – 21 November. The conference provided a well balanced mix of learning and networking opportunities for their members, including keynote speakers, practical seminars, and training workshops.

Based around the theme of ‘Great expectations – delivering service excellence’, the event attracted over 100 delegates from across the country, representing more than 30 different academic venues. Furthermore, nearly half of the delegates were attending the conference for the first time.

Keynote speakers included entrepreneur and comedian Shed Simove who impressed with his talk on ‘Creating innovation and ideas’ on the Wednesday, whilst sales and marketing maverick Kevin Parr provided an energetic presentation on ‘Choosing a growth mind-set and creating raving fans’ on the Thursday. However it was the inspirational Linda Moir who stole the show on the closing day; her experiences with Virgin Airlines In-Flight services and as leader of the London Olympic 2012 ‘Games Makers’ volunteers, earning unanimous ratings of ‘good or excellence’ from delegates.

Marketing and Membership Manager Natalie Hudson has stated, “We are delighted with the attendance at this year’s conference. It has been one of our strongest programmes to date, so we hope all our delegates left with plenty of fresh ideas to take back to their venues.”

At the end of the conference, it was announced the 2015 event will take place at College Court, part of the University of Leicester, from 18 – 20 November.
