tekom Annual Meeting at the ICS a successful endeavour

World's largest convention for technical communication held at the ICS for the first time – A positive signal for the high-tech region in Stuttgart.
From 11 to 13 November 2014, some 4,000 convention-goers and trade fair visitors attended the annual meeting of the European Association for Technical Communication – tekom Europe e.V. at the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart.

In so doing, the industry meeting place for technical editors and information developers from industrial, software and service companies got off to a perfect start.

"Our high expectations were more than met", comments Dr. Michael Fritz, Managing Director of tekom, on the event's premiere at the ICS and the rise in visitor numbers in Stuttgart. "Our tekom annual meeting is perfectly situated in the centre of one of Europe's economically strongest regions that is also home to a German city renowned for its high-tech credentials, and profits still further from the English-language tcworld conference and tekom trade fair held at the same time."

tekom changed the location of its annual meeting from Wiesbaden to Stuttgart and plans to continue holding the event at the ICS through to 2017. The new location is attractive for several reasons. First, the professional association has its offices in Stuttgart and stays in close touch with the universities in Baden-Württemberg. Many members are also employed by industrial companies and service providers throughout the region. All target groups are addressed directly with the comprehensive three-day programme.

The combination of meeting, international convention and trade fair is widely regarded as the largest venue for technical communication worldwide. This year, the ICS provided a total of 7,800 square metres of floor space. Thanks to the versatile premises, the distances walked between the over 230 workshops and lecture areas as well as the stands of the 180 exhibiting companies remained as short as possible. Participants and exhibitors alike praised the close proximity to Stuttgart Airport and the ease with which people can arrive at and leave the grounds in particular.

For Stefan Lohnert, Division Director Guest Events, the tekom annual meeting is the optimal addition to the cluster strategy, which also focuses on events in the IT and automotive sectors. "A great deal of well-known industrial companies are headquartered in the Stuttgart region, and the need for intelligent IT solutions continues to grow, especially in the core sectors of automotive and mechanical engineering. Technical communication therefore plays a critical role in this context."
