Industry celebrates as curtain draws on #NEMO
National Events Month drew to a close last night, following a month of campaigning on behalf of the UK events industry. The promotional campaign hosted a stunning Celebration Event attended by over 100 industry professionals and members of government, including representatives from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and UK Trade and Investment.

The industry also received another senior governmental endorsement, this time from Helen Grant, Minister for Tourism, who commented, “The UK events industry contributes a huge amount to our economy and the sector is predicted to be worth £48.8 billion by 2020. Britain for Events have done a tremendous job throughout National Events Month, championing the UK as a great place to host international events and I look forward to working with all those in the industry to build on the success achieved and make sure its growth potential is reached."

Ms Grant’s support was the latest in a series of endorsements for the campaign by senior members of government including the Prime Minister David Cameron, the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, Minister for Finance and Local Government, Edwina Hart and Fergus Ewing, Minister for Tourism, Energy and Enterprise from the SMP.

The campaign has received a stunning amount of support over the last month, with a phenomenal amount of events being submitted on the #NEMO website, as well as reaching over 100k event professionals via their social media programme. The support provided a positive backdrop to the event, which took place at the Museum of London, alongside the high profile Sherlock Holmes exhibition.

The Celebration Event also saw a fantastic selection of industry experts addressing the industry including Brian Pirkle, Regional Sales Director for Cvent, Alistair Turner, Campaign Director for Britain for Events and Michael Hirst, Chairman of Britain Visits Events Partnerships (BVEP).

London caterers, Party Ingredients, provided an array of delicious food during the event, including their haggis bon bons and ‘Moriartini’ cocktail, which went down a storm amongst guests. Later on in the evening, exclusive access was given to the Sherlock Holmes Exhibition and home of the Olympic caldron, which were opened to delegates.

The National Events Month Celebration Event demonstrated the huge success of the campaign and the amount of support it has gained for not only #NEMO, but the UK events industry as a whole. Britain for Events hope that this support will continue, with government and industry working more closely to do so.
