Plastic fantastic as Telford wins hat-trick of events

Following the phenomenal success of this year’s Plastics Design and Moulding (PDM) Show and inaugural Plastics Recycling Expo (PRE), Telford is celebrating after being chosen as the destination of choice for yet another major international polymer show.

Event organisers, Crain Communications, announced today that they have re-booked PDM and PRE for 2015 and that they will also be launching The Plastics Packaging Show at The International Centre Telford.  Combined, the industry events will see delegates from across the whole of the UK and Europe attend and will bring in over £1.2million to the local economy.

“This is the second year in a row that we have brought PDM to Telford” explained Crain Communications’ Managing Director Steve Crowhurst, “and as a destination it has a special place in our heart as it was the launch venue for the show back in 2005. We were tempted to London for a few years but Telford’s enhanced and expanded offer over the last few years, plus the fantastic support from the Telford team, including the Meet Telford & Shropshire convention bureau, has made it a must-return and we’re thrilled now that we made the call as the show has literally gone from strength-to-strength.”

“Last year saw our most successful opening day ever, and our most highly regarded event, with exhibitors and visitors alike praising the convenient location and the great facilities, and this year is already proving even more impressive. In fact, not only have we committed – and booked – to return on the 16th and 17th June next year with both PDM and PRE, but we’re looking to expand the European dimension of our events and increase our offer further.”

A large draw for the organisers has been the exciting £250million investment in the Heart of Telford Southwater Convention Quarter. Extending from The International Centre to the town’s commercial and retail hubs on one side, and the beautiful 450acre town park on the other, it boasts architect-designed public spaces, a range of cafes, bars and eateries, and a whole host of leisure venues including a new 11 screen multiplex Cineworld cinema and a new 85 bed hotel.

“Telford has long been regarded as the ‘Polymer Valley’ because it has the highest concentration of polymer, composites, and plastics companies in the UK, and so it’s fantastic that the organisers of PDM and now PRE have chosen to return again to their natural home” explained Sarah Bird, Business Tourism Manager for Meet Telford & Shropshire, the region’s official convention bureau.

“We were particularly delighted that Crain Communications have already confirmed their booking for next year, and that their Europe-wide appeal will only be enhanced with their plans for 2015. Telford is now one of the UK’s leading destinations for industry association events, and major investment, combined with consistent improvements has ensured that our offer is both compelling and comprehensive. We very much look forward to supporting the team to make next year’s show an even greater success” she concluded.

The show has seen manufacturers, reprocessors, local authorities, retailers, designers, and recycling organisations come together for one of Europe’s leading exhibitions, conferences, seminars and briefings.

Tom Gray, Chief Executive of the Southwater Event Group, explained: “We’re able to offer a truly flexible space at The International Centre, Telford and I know that the ease of flow and the ability to move around the venue so quickly was hugely important to the organisers, as too was the logistics and hospitality support our team was able to provide. We’re delighted that the event is once again proving such an unparalleled success and also that the organisers have placed their event with us for 2015.”
