The Color Run comes to Birmingham’s NEC

The Color Run
The Color Run, the single largest event series on the planet, is heading to Birmingham for the very first time and has chosen the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) as its destination. The 5k fun run that is taking place on Saturday 16 August, will utilise the outdoor space that surrounds the 20 halls and 34 conference suites of the NEC.

Around 8,000 participants are expected to take part in the run that douses runners with colour after every 1km and culminates in a ‘Color Festival’ at the finish line. The event at the NEC will start and finish in its North car parks and take runners around the whole NEC site.

Kathy Male, NEC Account Manager – Live Events, said, “We are delighted that the organisers of The Color Run have chosen to hold their first Birmingham-based fun run at the NEC. Our venue is most commonly known for holding large scale exhibitions or conferences but our site offers a flexible space for organisers to host almost any kind of event. The Color Run will not only showcase just what the NEC site has to offer but will also be a really fun event to be involved with. We look forward to welcoming the organisers and runners to the NEC in the summer.”

Launched in 2012, The Color Run holds over 100 events a year attracting more than a million participants. The event, which has previously been held in Manchester, London, Belfast and Brighton, is open to runners of any age or ability and promises to be ‘the happiest 5k on the planet’.

Event organiser Joe Rafferty said: “After such a fantastic summer of events last year we can’t wait for the next series. The summer of 2014 promises to be even better and we’re all looking forward to seeing our friends from last year as well as plenty of first-timers at new venues like the NEC! With the NEC being based in the heart of the country and having great connectivity by road and rail, it is ideally located to reach anybody that wants to get involved across the Midlands and beyond.”
