The University of Cambridge’s Robinson College has unveiled plans to build a new £5 million seminar building to develop both its academic and award-winning conference facilities.
Work on the new building is expected to start in July 2014 and finish in late summer 2015. The permanent structure has been designed to create extra space for academic requirements, with plans to make use of the additional facilities for the college’s meetings and events business.

Once complete, the building will provide a flexible space which can be adapted by event organisers and will look to accommodate the growing demand that the college has seen for medium-scale capacity conference facilities in the Cambridge area.

The new development will be located within the grounds, within easy access of the main college building and taking full advantage of the college’s delightful landscaped gardens. The space consists of a well-appointed and equipped plenary flat floor room offering cabaret for 80, (dining for 120) and is supported by three breakout rooms, each with capacity for 15 U-shape which can be combined into a single room offering U-shape layout for 50. The building is self-contained and ideal for exclusive use events with easy access to parking and public transport.

Conference and catering manager, Nick Milne, says: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce the development of a new seminar building. This is an incredibly exciting project for the College, where we can enhance our offering and will greatly benefit the College’s academic community, whilst also gaining a new conference facility. There is a real shortage of flat floor space for flexible conferences in and around Cambridge, so we look forward to offering both old and new clients this additional facility”.

Organisers will be able to book the building as a stand-alone unit for single client use, or for residential and non-residential conferences in conjunction with other facilities within the College. Located in the city of Cambridge, with accessible national transport links, the award-winning Robinson College boasts exceptional customer care, food, en-suite accommodation and first rate meeting facilities, including an auditorium holding up to 270 people.
