Keele Hall chosen to host county’s Good Food Awards

Keele University

Good start to New Year after successful 2013

Keele University is licking its lips over an event contract it has just been awarded. It has been chosen to host this year’s Taste of Staffordshire Good Food Awards.
This is a great start to 2014 after a successful 2013 for the academic venue when it welcomed 125,000 visitors and accommodated more than 17,300 wedding and banquet guests.

The awards event will be held at the Grade-II listed Keele Hall on Monday 24 March, celebrating the finest in food and service across the county of Staffordshire. Restaurants, pubs, brasseries, tea rooms, visitor attractions and food producers will attend to see who have been crowned winners in six categories.

Keele was awarded a Marque of Quality from Taste of Staffordshire in 2012 for The Terrace Restaurant and more recently won Gold for Business Tourism at the 2013 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards. As well as using local produce wherever possible, executive chef, Peter Walters, has even created a range of Staffordshire-themed menus featuring the ‘Arnold Bennett Tartlet’ – a twist on the Arnold Bennett Omelette, which it is said, was created exclusively for the Staffordshire-born novelist during his stay at The Savoy in the 1920s.

Sam Booth, Head of Keele University Conferences and Events, comments: ‘Our award-winning catering team are committed to using local produce from the county wherever possible. As any large-scale caterer knows, it can be a real challenge to source food locally, but our Staffordshire-themed menus have been a real success and have generated really positive delegate feedback. They’ve been particularly popular with businesses and academics who are keen to showcase the county to national and international visitors.’

Keele University Conferences and Events has a portfolio of more than 75 event spaces including North Staffordshire’s largest banqueting venue, Keele Hall.
