Developed by Convention Edinburgh, the business tourism arm of the city’s official destination bureau, Marketing Edinburgh, the new website combines intuitive design with clear navigation, enabling event planners to quickly source essential information and make instant direct enquires to Edinburgh’s leading venues, accommodation and service providers.
Hillary Bett, Head of Membership Services at Convention Edinburgh explained:
“The client journey through the website was the number one priority in its development. Along with consistent and detailed information on all 263 members and 309 services represented on meetingedinburgh.com, we wanted to ensure there was a natural flow that allowed visitors to organically find related venues or services depending, on their requirements and budget.
“For example, if there is a need for accessible meeting rooms, natural light or an in-house event manager, one click through from a venue, would list all city venues that offered a similar service.”
Along with hosting a regular rotation of special offers, the website has the added practical and time-saving benefit of allowing event planners to build a ‘shopping basket’ style enquiry, with selected members instantly emailed with full details of the client’s requirements and dates. These enquires can then be retrieved by event planners for future use.
As Edinburgh’s only digital resource that covers every element required to host a meeting, a clear breakdown of available support services was a further essential step forward in the site’s evolution, increasing visibility of all services, such as transport, A/V, dining and catering.
Hillary continued: “Edinburgh may be the UK’s number one international conference destination outside London, but it remains a highly competitive global marketplace. This new free service is incredibly adaptive to suit the user’s needs no matter how big or small their event.
“Having a fully integrated and dynamic website that showcases Edinburgh’s exceptional business tourism facilities, to new and existing markets is a complete necessity. I’m delighted with the final result.”
In 2015/16, Convention Edinburgh and its members worked together to secure over 206 future conferences for the city and surrounding area. This is expected to bring more than 74,400 delegates to Edinburgh, an uplift of 10,000 on the previous year, and generate over an estimated £95m to the local economy.
Edinburgh is the number one ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) conference destination in the UK outside of London and rated 20th in the top 50 European City ranking.
