Business Events Canada shares latest updates of economic sector strategy at IMEX 2018

Business Events Canada (BEC), the division of Destination Canada charged with bringing meetings, conventions and incentive travel (MC&IT) programmes to Canada, is set to be present at Europe’s foremost annual meetings industry show in Frankfurt, during 15 – 17 May.

BEC will be located at stand B280, where Team Canada partners from across the country will be discussing business opportunities and updating meetings and events planners on their offering and latest developments and experiences available.

Virginie De Visscher, Director of Business Development, Economic Sectors at Business Events Canada said: “BEC is proactively leveraging Canada’s key priority economic sectors and centres of excellence to attract international corporate and association business events to take place in Canada. IMEX Frankfurt provides a great global platform to elevate the perception of our economic sector strategy, putting a spotlight on our key industry sectors which include: Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and Life Sciences”.

When international conferences meet in Canada, it is often the first step to investment and trade, leaving a legacy well beyond the conference dates.

De Visscher added: “This new approach focuses on looking beyond the direct impact of business events on tourism infrastructure in Canada but rather on driving long lasting impact in R&D partnerships, trade and investment opportunities”.

Emma Cashmore, Managing Director of Axis Travel Marketing, European GSA for BEC, said: “BEC has been a long-standing exhibitor at IMEX Frankfurt. An important date in the industry calendar, the trade show is a great marketplace for us to discuss business with organisations looking to bring conferences and events to Canada. This year we have 20 Canadian partners in our booth which reinforces our commitment to the international events industry. In addition to the one-on-one meetings that will be conducted; we will be hosting presentations showcasing our economic sector strategy and the importance of industry content and local expertise when choosing a meeting location”.
