InterContinental® London - The O2 launch to international events market at IMEX 2015

The eagerly awaited InterContinental® London - The O2 will be unveiled to the international meetings and events community at IMEX Frankfurt. Event organisers from around the world will be able to see the full vision for the new convention hotel, situated in the newly regenerated Greenwich Peninsula and adjacent to The O2 at the show.

The new 453 bedroom hotel will open its doors winter 2015 but is already enjoying interest from event organisers around the world as it prepares to join East London’s bustling events district. The centre piece of the hotel is The Arora Ballroom - a 3,100sqm luxury pillar-free events space cited among the largest in Europe – at the core of its state-of-the-art conference centre which includes 1,600sqm pre-function space with panoramic views of the river.

Directly accessible to The O2, the hotel offers business professionals easy access between the two venues, perfect for a combined experience of entertainment and luxury. The 18 storey hotel boasts a modern and sleek exterior, built with floor-to-ceiling windows for guests to embrace its beautiful views across the River Thames and Canary wharf.

“IMEX is the perfect place for us to unveil the full scale and ambition of the hotel. The InterContinental® London - The O2 will be a major new London venue and we wanted a forum where we could speak to as many event organisers as possible to officially launch the property to the international events market,” comments Raj Shah, Commercial Director at The Arora Group, the hotel company responsible for the management and operations of the hotel.

“This is a game changer for London and completes what is already a fantastic events district. Our ballroom will be one of the key banqueting spaces in the capital and we’re working with our partners at The O2 and ExCeL London to give major meetings in the capital a complete events experience,” continues Shah. “East London is changing every day - the links between London City Airport and central London have never been stronger, and we’re in a prime location for visitors to enjoy the new QEII Park (formerly the London 2012 Olympic site) as well as The O2 and Canary Wharf.”

Tracy Halliwell, Director of Business Tourism and Major Events at London & Partners, the official promotional company for the capital, comments, “The opening of the InterContinental® London – The O2 is a great story for London and testament to the widespread and international appeal of East London's growing events district. We are particularly excited by the hotel’s role in the vibrant Greenwich Peninsula area, with its close proximity to historic Royal Greenwich, a micro destination in its own right that offers event organisers huge diversity and entertainment options to bolt on to live events. This is great news for event planners looking to come to London, and will provide their delegates with a fully enriching London experience which underlines our capital as a world-leading events destination.”

Commercial Director at The O2, Steve Sayer added, “The hotels’ colossal 3,100sqm banqueting space and luxury accommodation is the perfect complement to our live event and exhibition space at The O2. The whole area provides event organisers with endless possibilities for large events, banquets, break out experiences, social itineraries and 24 hour day delegate opportunities. We’re working hand in hand with the hotel to open up this area to event organisers and allow them to enjoy and experience East London in a completely new way.”

The InterContinental® London - The O2 will also offer 20 multi-functional break out spaces for smaller conferences and meetings, in addition to a dedicated 400sqm outdoor marque-space, and comes with a dedicated entrance and easily accessible parking.
