ITCM was a Media Affiliate of the IT&CM China MICE Exhibition in Shanghai and made the most of its visit by embarking on some of the excursions to local visitor attractions. One that was constantly recommended was Hangzhou.

This 5-star hotel offers spacious facilities in extensive grounds

Different hotels have different high and low seasons. This can depend on many factors, such as the periods of good weather, local festivals, major sporting events and so on. Don’t expect good rates in Monaco during the Grand Prix or in Blackpool during the school holidays.
But the answer to my question at the Fairmont Yangcheng Lake did come as a surprise. ‘The peak season, when corporate group organisers might not find it easy to negotiate’, I was told, ‘depends on the hairy crab’.

The Chinese conglomerate is expanding its Tangla hotel portfolio

ITCM, a media affiliate of TTG Asia’s IT&CM China MICE exhibition in Shanghai in April, was able to meet and interview an Irishman, Fintan O’Docherty, who is Vice President of Tangla Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Company and General Manager of the Tangla Hotel Tianjin.

Overlooking the famous Shanghai thoroughfare West Nanjing Road and its upmarket shopping, the wavy outline of the roof of the Swissôtel Grand Hotel is unmistakeable. Even the local taxi drivers recognise it.
Once you have found your feet in Shanghai, this location is a good base, close to Metro lines and the City Plaza and the Yu Yuan Gardens. The hotel has its own secure parking facilities.

Fairmont Peace Hotel is still a ‘must visit’ landmark property

The most famous hotel in Shanghai is the one that first catered for international guests – the Fairmont Peace Hotel. It was opened as the Cathay Hotel in 1929 by Sir Victor Sassoon, one of the Sassoon family of bankers. Unfortunately he had to leave his property behind when the Sino-Japanese War hotted up in 1937. It eventually was re-named the Peace Hotel because it was the venue for the peace talks that ended the hostilities.
