Stress Matters mental health training at the Design Museum
New partnership with Unique Venues of London offers Mental Health First Aider training for its members and the wider events industry
Stress Matters, the event industry wellbeing accreditation scheme which has partnered with Unique Venues of London, recently held its first Mental Health First Aider courses at the Design Museum, London.


The courses are accredited by MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) England—whose vision is to train one in ten of England’s population—and the Royal Society for Public Health. As part of the ongoing training supported by Unique Venues of London, Stress Matters will also place focus on working remotely, adopting flexible hours and managing the pressure of events.

MHFA England processes an astounding 10,000 delegates a month via diverse mental health training, with the aim to improve public mental health on a national scale. According to the organisation’s impact report, one in four people experience mental health issues each year, with an estimated cost of a staggering £105 billion per year.

The two-day course explores individual frame of reference and the stigma attached to mental health from personal and societal perspectives, encourages people to challenge the language used around mental health and teaches people how to spot the signs of poor mental health in themselves and in others.

The newly qualified Mental Health First Aiders from the recent Stress Matters event now also know how to act in a mental health crisis and how to provide self-care support.

Further, from an industry perspective, having people at their best level of wellbeing and productivity is of huge benefit. Companies that have trained and implemented their use into their company wellbeing plan, such as Capita Travel & Events, The NEC Group and RPM, are already seeing a positive impact in their work culture.

The next MHFA course will run from 12th to 13th August 2019 at the Foundling Museum. It costs £300 + VAT per person.
