The conference centre based at the National Agri-Food Innovation Campus, welcomed more than 3,000 people in June to a range of events, exhibitions and conferences, including its first large-scale public weekend event.
Coeliac UK chose the agri-food campus to host its 2019 gluten-free food festival, which saw over 1,300 visitors travel from across the UK to attend the food fair. The event included a cookery demo and book signing from Jane Devonshire, Masterchef winner from 2016, as well as dietic clinics, speakers and AGM with full catering on site delivering a 100% gluten free café.
Other events at the centre included the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP’s annual conference and local producer’s food fair; a study day for clergy and parishioners from the Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough; a Science Exhibition called Activate Science, which was in collaboration with Thermofisher and showcased a range of scientific suppliers; a leadership event for the NHS and a community-focused event for North Yorkshire Sports.
Annaleigh Marshall, Lakeside Conference Centre’s Business Development Manager, said: “June is traditionally a busy month for events and conferencing but this year we’ve seen a huge surge in demand.
“On top of 2 large scale weekend events, an event open to the general public, conferences and an exhibition, we’ve also supported our regular clients hosting training courses as well as internal meetings and sessions for tenants on the campus.
“We’ve had some really interesting events over the last month, building on existing relationships but also welcoming new clients to site, from all sectors. We have been able to really showcase the campus to the general public, letting them know that we are open for business and can accommodate large scale events.
“The Lakeside Conference Centre and NAFIC really is a gem in terms of the conferencing and events space it offers in the region, as well as being a global centre for agri and bioscience.
“Being able to offer a mix of spaces for different aspects of events, including a 250-seat conference theatre, and our out of town location with onsite parking is a real draw. We believe this has a direct impact on the high level of business we’ve seen.”
The busy June culminates a successful year for the Lakeside Conference Centre, with the venue’s bookings more than doubling in June 2019 compared to the same month in 2018.
