Commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day with unique and historic island experience in the Solent

To mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Spitbank Fort, an iconic Napoleonic Fort based in the Solent, will be hosting an array of special events and experiences for guests on Wednesday 5th and Saturday 8th June 2019.

Afternoon teas, 1940s music, firework displays and best of British four-course meals, the fort will be welcoming guests for a host of events and experiences to mark the occasion.  

Spitbank Fort is located in the Solent, just off the coastline at Portsmouth, where much of the landing force sailed from in 1944 and will form the focal point for commemoration events this year. Spitbank Fort is also offering Military veterans a 10% discount on all experiences and stays in 2019. 

Guests of each experience will start their journey by checking in at Solent Forts’ designated Port Office in Gunwharf Quays before taking a boat over to Spitbank Fort where their experience begins with arrival drinks in the Lauren-Perrier Champagne Victory Bar and a tour of the historic Fort by the dedicated Fort Captain.  

Forget-Me-Not Fort Experience
Guests are invited to a full-day experience at Spitbank which includes afternoon tea, a themed treasure hunt and a three-course dinner expertly prepared by the Executive Head Chef which will feature themed ‘Best of British’ courses. Music by 1940s-style singer, Amy Baker, will transport guests to another era while the dine before they head to the rooftop firepit for hot chocolate and marshmallows. Furthermore, guests will experience unrivalled views of MV Boudicca, and a specially chartered ship will transport 300 veterans from Portsmouth across the channel to Normandy. This ship will be escorted by a Royal Navy vessel and represents the famous crossing which took place 75 years ago. These veterans will also have a prime spot to witness the Red Arrows as they soar through the sky during the afternoon. 
The Forget-Me-Not Fort experience costs £125pp.  

D-Day Dining Experience – 5 June
Served in the Fort’s ‘Officers Mess’, this three-course dinner has been expertly crafted by the resident chefs to celebrate and commemorate the best of British in recognition of 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The dining experience can be enjoyed with a backdrop of 1940s classics provided by jazz musician, Amy Baker. After having the ideal vantage point from the fort to watch MV Boudicca and her historic flotilla go past the Fort as she leaves Portsmouth on her latest voyage to Normandy, guests can enjoy views of the Solent from the rooftop fire pit, accompanied by hot chocolate, marshmallows, and a tot of rum.
The D-Day dining experience costs £90 per person.  

Spitbank Spectacular – 8 June
Dressed in 1940s attire, guests are invited to the Spitbank Spectacular, an evening of history, delicious British cuisine and authentic 1940’s entertainment. Starting with a private transfer from the Port Office in Gunwharf Quays, guests will be greeted before a tour around the iconic forts. A four-course meal will be accompanied by 1940’s jazz and guests will have the chance to watch an incredible firework display from the top of the fort before indulging in toasted marshmallows and a generous serving of rum.
The Spitbank Spectacular experience costs £125 per person.
