Impact of the games industry showcased and celebrated

Tobacco Dock was a focal point for the capital’s first London Games Festival since 2012 as EGX Rezzed and BAFTA's British Academy Games Awards drew creators, educators, designers and gamers to the venue.
Taking place on 7th – 9th April, EGX Rezzed is a showcase for independent developers and big budget publishers to interact, educate and celebrate together. A highlight of the gaming festival was BAFTA’s British Academy Games Awards where the very best individuals and companies in digital and interactive entertainment were recognised by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Over 15,000 visitors are set to attend EGX Rezzed and 550 guests enjoyed the prestigious awards dinner which was hosted by Dara O’Briain. Winners of the awards included: Fallout 4 who won best game, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Her Story and Rocket League.

The awards, now in their third consecutive year at Tobacco Dock, have been attended by some of the biggest names in interactive entertainment including Hideo Kojima, Tim Schafer and John Carmack who this year, received the illustrious BAFTA fellowship award.

Jonathan Read, commercial director at Tobacco Dock comments; “We have been a long term partner with EGX Rezzed and the British Academy Games Awards and they put a huge spotlight on the creativity, reach and value that the business of gaming brings to the UK. The added gravitas of being part of the inaugural London Games Festival, which is backed by the Mayor of London’s Enterprise Panel, further underlines the significance of this sector to the UK economy, and shows this part of town as a creative hub.”

Director of Productions at BAFTA, Clare Brown, commented, ““Tobacco Dock is a fantastic destination that brings to life the creative values of the British Academy Games Awards. The flexibility of the space means we can build a stunning set and create a backdrop that is both memorable and shows off the spectacular work of our winners”.

Tobacco Dock has a roster of prominent consumer events and trade expos in the technology, lifestyle, food & drink and professional service sectors. The Grade 1 listed warehouse marries contemporary design and hi-speed IT infrastructure with an ethos that champions ideas and innovations.
