Although primarily known as one of the most iconic cricketing venues in the world, recent years have seen the ground also become a vibrant and modern events space, active all year round – and with turnover increasing from £1.2m to £4.5m over the last five years, it is attracting clients from across the capital and further afield.
The natural variety of spaces in a sports stadium enables the Kia Oval to provide creative solutions for the thorniest of event problems. Whether it is a classic suite in the modern OCS Stand, an oak paneled room in the historic Members’ Pavilion or newly created industrial style spaces like the Jardine Suite or soon to be completed Peter May Stand, there is something for all.
Another factor playing firmly in the ground’s favour is its enviable central London location. Situated just five minutes from both Oval and Vauxhall tube stations and just a ten minute cab ride from central London, a day at the Kia Oval is convenient for both a quick trip home or a post-event night in London.
Blue chip bookers at the ground include Google, Apple, Coca-Cola and John Lewis with huge public sector organisations such as Transport for London, the NHS and the National Fostering Agency also regular clientele.
Recent exhibitions include the high profile International Wine Challenge (now gearing up for its third straight year at the ground) and the Capital Green Fleet Car and Plug In Technology Show, which showcased some of the world’s top electric cars in the Jardine Suite and utilised the ground’s hospitality boxes for presentations.
Packages already on sale for later in the year include a ‘sizzling’ summer parties deal; Christmas parties including a ‘Now This is Christmas’ retro disco and a more traditional ‘Let It Snow’ package. Throughout the summer, the ever popular ‘Conference and Cricket’ package is already doing great business, with delegates able to watch a first-class cricket match throughout and after their event.
Another popular option for 2016 is for event organisers to combine their day with one of the hugely popular NatWest T20 Blast matches at the ground this summer. With games not starting until 6.30pm, they provide a perfect evening’s entertainment following a hard day’s conferencing! Regular tickets start from just £19 with top of the range hospitality packages beginning at £119.
Charlie Hodgson, Commercial Director at the Kia Oval, said: “The growth of our off the field business over the last five years has been magnificent and is a true testament to the excellent facilities we now possess.
“As a Members’ Club, where profits have to be retained within the business, it has also allowed us to invest in the ground, further improving the facilities we are able to offer our clients and meaning we are able to continue growing the business.
“Excellent customer experience is our mantra at the Kia Oval and we are proud of the service we provide to events clients, cricket fans and club members alike. We already have a wide variety of events at the ground and look forward to growing that portfolio ever wider over the coming years.”
