Foodies are being encouraged to visit Kyoto and sample some of the city’s finest delicacies from the likes of its Michelin-star restaurants during Kyoto Restaurant Winter Special. The exclusive month-long promotion in February 2016 will see restaurants offer seasonal winter menus, with some prices as low as those offered by street food outlets..

For the first time, Kyoto Restaurant Winter Special has also launched an English-language website to help diners make the most of the limited-time offers and choose which restaurants to visit. The 2016 event will also welcome restaurants and cafes specialising in sweet treats to the promotion for the first year.

Over 180 of the city’s restaurants will be participating in the seventh annual celebration, and visitors can enjoy the likes of restaurants specialising in Kyo-ryori (Kyoto cuisine) which was registered as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2013 as well as a host of international cuisine.

The focus of the event is to encourage tourists to experience genuine Kyoto cuisine and strengthen their understanding of the Kyoto food culture during the winter season. Restaurants will offer their menus as part of set price brackets starting from 1,500 JPY (approximately £8), and reservations will open from 10am on 15 January 2016.
