Smart wishes guests ‘bone’ appetite at the Collars & Coats Gala Ball 2015

On Thursday 12th November, Battersea Evolution, central London’s most dynamic and flexible events space, hosted an evening of celebrities, sparkling entertainment and of course, the capital’s finest canines, for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s annual Collars & Coats Gala Ball.

The evening began with a red carpet display, with celebrities including Dr Christian Jessen, Dame Jacqueline Wilson and Sue Barker arriving to a VIP welcome from 40 of the Home’s rescue dogs and service dogs.

The evening also featured a Champagne reception, before guests enjoyed a spectacular performance from the electrifying burlesque troupe Crazy Rouge, as they took their seats for a luxurious dinner catered for by Moving Venue by Smart. Highlights included braised beef cheeks with burnt onion emulsion, buttered kale and roast potatoes, as well as a delice of cassis on a chocolate sponge and mirror glaze.

Throughout the evening guests were wowed by a whole host of dazzling performances including legendary English singer-songwriter Bryan Ferry and internationally renowned classical artist Camilla Kerslake. Four-legged stars were also at the forefront of the evening’s entertainment, with many dogs whose lives have been transformed by the Home featuring on stage.

Hawthorn provided the technical production for the event. A visually striking black-and-white theme was augmented by over 70m of white voile drapes installed around the venue. A combination of over 50 moving lights wash lights were also used to create a dynamic mood and emphasise impressive stage features.

Andrew Hodgkins, group managing director: events, at Smart Group, commented “We were delighted to host Battersea Dogs & Cats Home for the fifth year running. The venue meets the needs of the event perfectly and the flexibility of the space means the red carpet, entertainment and a fantastic dinner are all easily achievable and a perfect opportunity to demonstrate what we can do at Smart Group.”
