Leeds New Dock Hall to host first STEM careers event

Leeds New Dock Hall
Leeds’ New Dock Hall has been selected to host the first in a series of specialist careers & job expo events. Designed to help recent school or college leavers and graduates and GCSE/A Level students pursue a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), the STEMtech LIVE! event is taking place on February 13th and is the first in a series of nationwide STEMtech events planned for 2015.

“This event brings an inspiring range of opportunities direct to students at a time in their life when they are making key decisions that will determine their future,” says event organiser, Tina Lucas. “STEMtech LIVE! careers events are an opportunity for young people to find out about the future of work in these industries and receive real advice, guidance and access to experts, employers and further and higher education providers.”

The New Dock Hall venue is situated opposite the Royal Armouries Museum in the heart of the Clarence Dock development in Leeds.

Visitors will have the chance to speak with local and national organisations, colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers, employers and recruiters. Pre-booked groups will be given a 90-minute slot to get in-depth advice and support in two specialist zones.

The Career Zone, sponsored by recruitment experts Capita, will offer clear guidance and advice on qualifications, employability skills and job hunting.

The Enterprise Zone, supported by the Prince’s Trust, will offer mini information sessions on setting up on your own, using STEM career case studies, followed by time for Q&A.

James Vincent, Managing Director of Royal Armouries (Int) Plc which runs the New Dock Hall venue says: “We are delighted to be hosting the first STEMtech LIVE! Expo - it is a great event which offers young people a fantastic headstart if they are wanting to pursue a STEM career."

STEMtech LIVE! will be at the New Dock Hall in Leeds on Friday 13th February 2015.
