2015 calendar is announced with two brand new eventsArundel Castle in West Sussex has announced its 2015 events calendar in time for its imminent re-opening on 28 March.
Kicking off yet another action packed year of events will be crowd favourite, Life in a Medieval Castle on 28 – 29 March. Set within the Keep at Arundel Castle, visitors will be able to discover the camaraderie, lifestyle and hardships of times gone by. Raven Tor Living History Group will recreate displays of costume, weapons, armour, and crafts, transporting visitors back to medieval life across the weekend.
Arundel Castle will not disappoint visitors in 2015 with two brand new events to look forward to, including the Privateers & Revolutionaries Weekend on 11 - 12 July. With the stunning Castle as a backdrop, visitors can expect two encampments of Smugglers and Red Coats portraying the moments England called for revolution to create a republic.
To commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt, the Castle is also delighted to introduce Mustering for Agincourt, a special event spanning the weekend of 20-21 June. Raven Tor Living History Group will spectacularly bring history to life, focusing on preparations for the 15th Century war, which eventually lead to the defeat of the French forces, a royal wedding and peace between France and England.
Continuing the theme of historical anniversaries, the Exhibition Room at Arundel Castle will play host to a special exhibition commemorating the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta signing.
The highlight of the Castle’s open season will be the sensational Jousting and Medieval Tournament Week on 21-26 July – Europe’s largest and longest competition of its kind. The week-long event, held under the shadow of the mighty Castle, welcomes audiences from far and wide, eager to enjoy the magnificent 15th Century jousting action. Visitors can watch in awe as revered knights from around the world gather to test their chivalry and skill at mounted combat in full plate armour.
The Castle’s extensive event season is set to take visitors on a journey through time, combining thrilling entertainment with educational opportunities.
Castle Manager Bryan McDonald commented: “We are thrilled to unveil our events calendar for the upcoming open season and we’re especially looking forward to recognising two key historical anniversaries in 2015.
