The announcement was made from the Chilean capital of Santiago, where a UAE delegation including Department of Transport (DoT), Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA) and ADNEC were present.
The event, which was established in 1909 by the World Road Association (PIARC) brings together global road administrations from 120 governments along with members in 140 countries. The UAE was successfully accepted as the latest member on October 29.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Acting Group CEO of ADNEC, said: “Winning this bid is another significant achievement for Abu Dhabi and for ADNEC, as we work enhance Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a global hub for business tourism. Abu Dhabi offers a unique value proposition that we believe sets us apart as a hub for high level dialogue such as this.”
Held every four years, World Road Congress is the world’s leading event dedicated to road infrastructure. The event is organized by the International Road Federation, based in Paris. Next year’s event will be held in Seoul in November 2015, while in the previous session of the summit was held in 2011 in the Mexican capital, Mexico City.
"Winning two important bids recently, the World Energy Congress and the World Road Congress is a testament to the work of all stakeholders to prepare Abu Dhabi to become a global hub for such platforms,” continued Al Dhaheri. "Despite the fact that we are young company, we continue to evolve and diversify our pool of expertise – attracting more and more specialised events and positioning ourselves as a city that is a gateway to opportunity.”
ADNEC, through support from the Abu Dhabi Culture and Tourism Authority has been able to attract several new international conferences to Abu Dhabi. Through closer stakeholder collaboration, Abu Dhabi’s competitiveness has improved measurably.
