Show organisers floored by knock-out rise in visitors

The organiser of one of Harrogate’s longest running industry shows has thanked “loyal exhibitors” for ensuring the survival of the event through the economic downturn.
The Flooring Show, now in its 52nd year, reported a big boost in visitor numbers at Harrogate International Centre (HIC) on September 21 to 23. The event came under new ownership three years ago and director Paul Stott said investment during that period was now starting to pay off.

He said: “We’re delighted that the hard work and financial investment by the new management team over the past three years appears to be bearing fruit and we’re extremely grateful to the core of loyal exhibitors who have stayed with us through the past few tough years – without them the show simply couldn’t have survived.”

The sell-out 2014 event welcomed 2,650 visitors from 28 countries representing a 15 per cent year-on-year increase. Visitors from the South of England were reportedly up by 20 per cent while visitors from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were up by 24 per cent on 2013.

HIC director, Simon Kent said: “What fantastic news. The flooring show has been coming to Harrogate since 1962 and we consider HIC Yorkshire to be its home.

“It’s grown here into the biggest flooring industry event attracting buyers and exhibitors from around the world, so it’s great to hear that the lean years of the recession seem to be behind the Flooring Show and it’s on a path to growth again.”

Mr Stott concluded: “Exhibitor rebooking rates for next year have far exceeded expectations and the whole Flooring Show team will do its utmost to ensure that the 2015 show is bigger and better still.”

Next year’s event takes place at HIC Yorkshire from September 20 to 22.
