The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has once again pulled off a successful Australia Day reception, this time with the latest in digital lighting and an enhanced culinary presentation to ensure the over 1,000 guests had their ‘socks rocked off’!
“Themed ‘Australia Rocks!’ to celebrate the country’s stunning landscapes, excellence in arts, culture and entertainment, our Culinary brigade and operations team wanted to showcase Australia’s finest produce; meats, seafood, wine, cheese, fruits and desserts against a backdrop of Australian images and footage in an equally stunning and creative way,” shared General Manager Designate, Alan Pryor.

Collaborating with one of our preferred suppliers*, we decided to hype up the ambience with a gigantic eye-catching 82ft (W) x 23ft (H) curved screen to which displayed various Australian images. This was complemented by a ‘live’ feed of the evening’s proceedings projected on a 36ft (D) x 18ft (H) cylindrical LED installation and an animated LED Australian flag along the entire wall to ensure a truly entrancing experience for all.

“This presentation allowed the venue ambiance and décor to match the spectacular culinary elements prepared by our Culinary team,” said Pryor.

With food and beverage being the Centre’s pride, her Culinary team enhanced the presentation with State-of-the-Art Banqueting. Elaborating, Executive Chef Richmond Lim said, “this was the perfect occasion to show off our new culinary concept, an elevated buffet display on a four-feet high platform, conceived under our Culinaria** brand, together with our popular hanging pedestal food stands and Chef Showmanship Stations where chefs prepare the food a-la-minute.”

In addition, the Culinary team created a magnificent six-foot tall ice sculpture depicting some of Australia’s most iconic images i.e. the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a kangaroo and koala.

Praising the entire team for their efforts, Pryor cited the event as yet “another example of how our team goes above and beyond to deliver value to repeat and new clients through innovative product and service offerings.”

Hosted by the Australian High Commission Malaysia, this year’s Australia Day reception, the seventh in a row held at the Centre and by far the largest, was attended by distinguished Malaysian guests from various sectors including government, politics, business, education, arts, defence and security, as well as the diplomatic corps and members of the Australian community residing in Malaysia.
