Brazil Pop Up Diner: 12 cities, 4 months, 1 restaurant

While football visits Brazil, Brazilian cuisine comes to London

Launching on 9th March, Brazil Pop Up Diner is a series of supper club style events taking diners on a culinary journey through the twelve Brazilian cities that will be hosting the 2014 Fifa World Cup. Between March and June, eleven Sunday events (lunch and dinner) will be hosted at The Bedford and Strand in central London.

Each event will feature a three course meal inspired by one of the World Cup hosting cities with cocktails by Leblon Cachaça and music from the region.  At the end of every meal, diners will leave with a goody bag containing touristic info about the city and recipes to replicate the dinner at home.

March events will kick off on 9th March with Recife, the capital city of Pernambuco state. Guests will experience a menu inspired by the local cuisine of this coastal town in the north-east of Brazil.  Diners can expect exciting dishes and cocktails designed with typical ingredients from Pernambuco cuisine, such as sundried meat, guava marmalade and fruit like PITANGA and CASHEW FRUIT - check menu.  The menu has been designed in partnership between Brazilian chefs Andre Salum (ex-Quo Vadis, Fino, Georges Club Mayfair and Brasserie Payard in São Paulo) and private chef Helio Fenerich, who previously worked with the River Café’s Ruth Rogers among others.

Manaus will be the theme of 23rd March, showcasing food produce from the Amazon region where England plays its first match in Brazil. Its average humidity of 80% will certainly be a challenge for the players but these same weather conditions that favour the exotic local produce.  The majority of Brazil´s indigenous dishes come from this region and the pop up menu will include fruit such as CUPUAÇU, AÇAI, CAMU CAMU and others. The menu will be signed off by chef Roberta Sciasca, owner of Oui Oui, Miam Miam and Mira! Restaurants in Rio de Janeiro.   

Each meal will offer diners with an exotic and unusual Brazilian feast and will include a Leblon caipirinha cocktail, pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), starter, main course, dessert, coffee & chocolate  – all priced at £35 a head.  Guests will leave with a goody bag containing, recipes and information on where to buy the products to recreate this dinner at home.   Each event will showcase the menu of a different guest chef working with Brazilian products available to purchase by UK consumers.
