Las Vegas MICE Goes Green: The world’s first venue to receive a level two certification to ASTM Standard

Las Vegas is one of the most rapidly developing MICE destinations in the world, and in true cutting edge Las Vegas style, it is now home to the first venue in the world to achieve the advanced "level two" industry certification for environmentally sustainable meetings, events, trade shows and conferences.  The award winning meetings complex in question is the Sands Expo and Congress Center located at The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas.

The certification – called Level Two Certification to the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) Standard – highlights the MICE industry's comprehensive standards for environmentally sustainable meetings and events.

“Currently, there are only four venues in the world that have been certified at Level One,” said John Caparella, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Venetian and The Palazzo. “We are beyond thrilled to be a leader in the industry in being the first venue to become certified at Level Two.”

Environmental sustainability is a key focus across the city of Las Vegas, such that The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) are continuously working towards becoming more environmentally sustainable. The LVCC’s efforts have already shown a significant reduction in energy consumption. Currently, 65% of show materials are recycled in addition to replacing more than 30,000 gallons of traditional chemicals with eco-friendly cleaning products. Even the LVCVA’s fleet of vehicles is powered by propane or batteries, lowering fuel consumption and emissions immensely.
