Triple-language translations for the whole of a Roman island

CP Centro Pilota handled major project in Hungarian, Spanish and Italian over a wide area
CP Centro Pilota Event Services, the Rome-based company specialising technical services for events, has released details of how it recently met the very demanding requirements of one of Rome’s most prestigious gatherings.

ATREJU 2019 is the youth meeting of Fratelli d’Italia, a political party. Taking place over a weekend on Tiber Island, the event was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including the Prime Minister of Hungary, the Czech President of the ECR, the Dutch President of the Voor Democratie Forum, the Spanish Vox President and also the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte.

CP Centro Pilota was asked to provide simultaneous translation from and into three languages: Hungarian, Spanish and Italian.

According to Stefano Ferri, speaking for Centro Pilota: ‘To accomplish this mission, it was necessary to provide a digital infrared simultaneous translation system capable of covering up to 1,000 receivers, along with two soundproof booths for the interpreters. Furthermore, the translation signal had to be broadcast beyond the main conference marquee to cover the entire island. The Italian channel was delivered in voice-over to the external areas served by relayed video signals on maxi led walls.

‘Various challenges had to be met to achieve the desired result. It was a question of creating a functional and efficient technical setup, in accordance with the latest health and safety guidelines, that would prove successful given the enormous space to be covered by the digital radiators. It was also necessary to organise and man a distribution point for the large number of receivers that would guarantee the continuity and efficiency of the service, despite the dreadful weather forecasts.

‘The translation booths were installed on raised platforms to enable the interpreters to have a clear view of the speakers and of all the media content, considered essential for delivering a quality interpretation. Equipment was also set up in the distribution area so that all participants could verify their headsets before going through to the conference area.

‘The whole project’, comments Stefano, ‘was completed in just one day, thanks to the experience and ability of CP Centro Pilota’s technicians who were responsible for the installation, assistance during the event and the de-rigging immediately after the event.

CP Centro Pilota provides technological services able to support all conference activities, covering customised a/v solutions, cutting-edge a/v equipment, 2k video projectors, led walls, digital sound systems, digital simultaneous translation systems, video-conferencing equipment and cloud solutions, audience response systems, set design and intelligent lighting systems.
