LAAX announces a host of events for the 2018/19 Season

The Swiss ski resort LAAX, located in the heart of the Alps and less than a two hour transfer from Zurich Airport is opening for the season from 22 December 2018 – 22 April 2019. One of the locals’ best kept secrets, the resort has been awarded as Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort at The World Ski Awards five times in a row. The resort provides 224km of slopes, 4 snow parks and is one of the most reliable regions in the world for snow.

For the upcoming 2018/19 season, LAAX will reaffirm its position as the place to be for freestyle culture and lifestyle, in organising the LAAX OPEN 2019 – the World Cup snowboarding competition for slopestyle and halfpipe as well as hosting the Drone Champions League 2019.

From 14-19 January 2019, the slopes of LAAX will play host to the LAAX OPEN for the fourth year, attracting snowboarders from all over the world to partake in freestyle competitions that incorporate slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines. The LAAX OPEN welcome Olympic gold medal winners, world champions and newcomers on the Crap Sogn Gion, that last year saw the unveiling of its redesigned mountain station, ‘’GALAAXY’’ , featuring a new modern contemporary design, juice bar, brand new 360 degree restaurant and work space area.

LAAX provides ideal conditions for the event, with its innovative slopestyle course and largest halfpipe in the world - living up to its reputation of being the place to be for the freestyle culture and lifestyle having been awarded the "World's Best Freestyle Resort" at the World Ski Awards for the past two years consecutively. The LAAX OPEN culminate with the highlight of the night halfpipe finals concluding with an awards ceremony, live music and events that will showcase the radical yet original nature of LAAX as a resort.

The Drone Champions League
From 28-30 March 2019, the snow park LAAX is hosting the 2019 Drone Champions League, the first one above 2000 metres above sea level, pinpointing LAAX as a future shaper amongst winter resorts. The Drone Champions League is the world’s first live high-speed race series for drones and sees eight international teams compiled of the world’s best drone pilots compete against each other to steer their homemade drones through the scenic and exhilarating course as quickly as possible.

Herbert Weirather, founder and managing director of Drone Champions League said, “A race at this altitude and in the snow is uncharted territory for us. The entire technology of drones has to withstand the extreme temperatures. This will be a challenge for all of us – a pure thrill. But with our races we want to create experiences that not only fascinate our pilots but also the spectators and fans again and again.”

rocksresort 10th Anniversary
Situated at the base station LAAX, rocksresort is celebrating its 10th anniversary over the 2018/2019 season.
