Sights set on summer destinations at Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2018

Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2018, the largest tourism event in Northern Europe, attracted 63,600 visitors to Messukeskus in Helsinki. Of all the visitors, 14,000 were professionals. The Matka Nordic Travel Fair will next be held at Messukeskus in January 2019.

Half of the non-trade visitors at the fair set their sights specifically on next summer's trips. A third of the visitors came to the fair in search of information on spring trips, while a fifth were already daydreaming about next winter's holidays. Some 30% said that they would soon buy a holiday trip, based on information they had received at the fair.

Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2018 included 915 exhibitors from 83 countries. Making their first appearance at the fair were Rwanda, Ghana and Ras al-Khaimah.

“The Matka Nordic Travel Fair is an unbeatable event in Northern Europe, because here we can directly reach the most important tour operators and Finnish tourists”, says Gabriel Gabiro from the Embassy of Rwanda in Sweden, who was responsible for the Rwanda stand.

“Finnish tourists are a very interesting target group for us, because Finns appreciate the safety of their travel destinations, and they also travel a lot. We market Rwanda as ‘Africa for beginners’, as Rwanda is a safe but suitably exotic destination for Finns. We have garnered a lot of positive attention at the fair”, Gabiro adds.

Matka Workshop Day continues to grow
Matka Workshop Day, an event targeting travel professionals, held in conjunction with the Matka Nordic Travel Fair, continued to grow year on year in 2018. Matka Workshop Day is the most significant buying and selling event for travel services in the Nordic countries. The one-day event attracted a total of 300 buyers from around the world, buying the services of 206 seller companies at pre-arranged appointments. There were almost 8,000 appointment requests sent, which is approximately 1,500 more than in the previous year.
