Eurotunnel Le Shuttle’s ‘Royal visit’ marks Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday

‘Is that you ma’am?’ Passengers at Eurotunnel’s Folkestone terminal brushed shoulders with Royalty today – or so they thought. A look-a-like HM Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip had everyone guessing as they walked their pet corgi around the grounds.

‘HM The Queen’ and ‘The Duke of Edinburgh’ complete with corgi accompanied the Gay Classic Car Group of more than 20 cars in a trip to Le Touquet for a special lunch to celebrate the Royal birthday ahead of this weekend’s festivities.   Before departure, they took a stroll around the pet exercise area and agility course at Le Shuttle terminal. The VIP couple then browsed the duty free shopping and topped up on essentials before their trip.

The convoy of classic cars paid tribute to HM The Queen with Union Jack bunting and flags adorning cars as well as the drivers and passengers dressed especially for the occasion.

Passengers gave a Royal wave as ‘Her Majesty’ and the ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ boarded Le Shuttle in their Bentley Continental with the corgi content on the back seat ready for the trip.

Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel Commercial Director stated: “Eurotunnel Le Shuttle paid tribute to HM The Queen’s 90th birthday in a fun way which engaged our passengers and also formed a part of an organised trip by The Gay Classic Car Group. It was great to see people looking twice to see if they were the real Royals or not, the corgi also added to the show as the perfect accessory and enjoyed himself with our pet-friendly areas. It was a great festive atmosphere ahead as a tribute to our reigning Monarch.”

Brian Palmer, Chair of the Club stated: " The Gay Classic Car Group was delighted to celebrate HM The Queen's 90th Birthday with a cavalcade of almost 30 classic cars of all ages for a fun-filled day to France courtesy of Eurotunnel Le Shuttle. "
