From 25th March to 1st April 2019, Sun Resorts, in partnership with Swing (a golfing events consultancy) and the esteemed French Chef Jean-Pierre Vigato, will be offering a phenomenal experience combining delicious food, epic golf adventures and tranquil surroundings; the 5th Golf and Gourmet Trophy (previously known as the Tee and Toque Trophy).
Open to both amateurs and golfing aficionados, players will discover the perfect blend of golf and gastronomy, with the magnificent five-star resorts Long Beach Mauritius and Sugar Beach Mauritius as an incredible back-drop. The programme includes a seven night stay, from the sunrise to the sunset coast, and golf on four spectacular courses in Mauritius: Ile aux Cerfs, Tamarina, Avalon and Anahita.
The Golf and Gourmet Trophy fuses some of life’s greatest pleasures: an exotic island paradise, delicious culinary delights, extraordinary golf courses and ample rounds of golf. Players have the opportunity to explore Mauritius and enjoy golf on some of the island’s very best courses. This year, three international chefs will be participating: alongside Jean-Pierre Vigato, Reuben Riffel from South Africa and Fabio Haebel from Germany will also take part. Christophe Ravetto (a former European Tour player) will also be overseeing the event.
Mauritius offers travellers many reasons to explore its shores—from exceptional beaches to phenomenal outdoor activities and world-class golf courses. Partaking in the Golf and Gourmet Trophy will give players ample opportunity to indulge in blissful hours spent on four of the island’s most coveted golf courses. The Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club is an extraordinary 18-hole, par 72 championship course designed by the famed Bernhard Langer and is located on its very own tropical island - Ile aux Cerfs. It is renowned for its technically challenging course and unbelievable natural surroundings. The Anahita Golf Course is equally as stunning with its dramatic mountain and sea views. This 18-hole, par 72 golf course was designed by Ernie Els and offers avid golfing fans an incredible game of golf in a magical setting.
Tamarina Golf Club, designed by architect Rodney Wright is another stellar 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course celebrated for its fabulous facilities and intricate course. Sweeping views of Tamarin Bay and Rempart Mountain make this course a must-play. Last but not least, Avalon Golf Club is distinctly different from the other courses in that it is situated in the heart of Mauritius, surrounded by tea plantations, undulating landscapes, ravines and mountains. Designed by the fabled South Africa architect Peter Matkovich, this course is truly something to behold.
As part of the Golf and Gourmet Trophy, guests can look forward to exclusive gourmet meals including a true ‘feet-in-the-sand’ lunch experience on Filibusters, Ile aux Cerfs' exclusive beach for golfers and one of the most beautiful locations on Mauritius, a magical catamaran cruise around the island, cookery classes to discover Mauritius’ local delicacies, and an unforgettable gala dinner hosted and prepared by the celebrity chefs. Whilst not taking part in the extensive programme, players can relax and enjoy the wide facilities and activities at Long Beach Mauritius and Sugar Beach Mauritius – from a golfer’s massage to water-sports, yoga or sunrise kayaking.
Long Beach Mauritius is a chic retreat fringing Mauritius' iconic Belle Mare beach, one of the island’s most beautiful white sandy beaches, on the east coast, whilst Sugar Beach Mauritius unfurls along the sun-drenched, sheltered bay of Flic-en-Flac on the east, bordered by crystalline waters and manicured gardens. The combination of both hotels allows players to experience both sides of the island and the unique qualities of both coasts.
Sun Resorts’ Golf and Gourmet Trophy Package starts from £4,100, based on two sharing a room, including the golf and gourmet programme, four nights at Long Beach Mauritius in a Junior Suite, and three nights at Sugar Beach Mauritius in a Garden Manor House room.
