Ashdown Park Hotel names bar superstar Employee of the Year

Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club in East Sussex has named head barman Valentin Buga Employee of the Year for 2018.
Valentin joined the team at the countryside hotel in 2016 as a barman, before being promoted to head barman last year. His hard work over the past year was recognised with the Employee of the Year award which was presented by general manager of Ashdown Park Hotel, Ben Booker, at the hotel’s staff Christmas party.


Valentin was chosen to win the award for his enthusiasm for the job, willingness to work long hours and go out of his way to help his teammates, and the high-quality service he always delivers, working in the hotel’s recently refurbished cocktail bar.

Valentin’s line manager, lounge and bar manager Tamas Mehes, said “Valentin is one of the hardest-working people I have ever worked with. He continuously delivers a very high-quality service even at the busiest times and does it all with a huge smile. I think it is safe to say that he is loved throughout the hotel as he is always there to help out his colleagues. Nothing is too much trouble for Valentin, he always strives to go the extra mile, and the employee of the year award is very well-deserved.”

Speaking after receiving his award, Valentin said: “I feel very proud to win the award and appreciated for my work, which gives me extra motivation. Ashdown Park is by far the nicest environment I have ever worked in and I really enjoy the view of the estate from the cocktail bar, which is kind of my office! Working in the bar requires lots of patience, as it can get really busy and stressful, but if you are open-minded and positive then it’s a really enjoyable job.”

General manager of Ashdown Park Hotel, Ben Booker, added: “I’d like to congratulate Valentin on winning the employee of the year award, which is very well-deserved. He has received many GEM (going the extra mile) commendations in his time here, and consistently exceeds both the expectations of management and guests.”
