Bulgari Hotel London announces breakthrough women film series

Bulgari Hotel London
Bulgari Hotel London has announced its inaugural Breakthrough Women Film Series. Running monthly from February through to May 2018, Bulgari Hotel London’s cinema will host a series of four preview film screenings championing young female filmmakers and female-driven storylines.

Celebrating new talent in filmmaking, each screening will be followed by a live Q&A session with the director or leading member of the film’s cast. Guests will therefore have the opportunity to watch a world-class pre-release film, as well as having intimate access to the backstory of each project.

Tuesday 27 February - Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist (Dogwoof): Advance screening of the much-anticipated documentary followed by a live Q&A session with the film’s director Lorna Tucker.

Told with exclusive and unprecedented access, this is the first film to encompass the remarkable story of Dame Vivienne Westwood’s life, her fashion, her personality, her activism and her cultural importance. The film blends archive, beautifully crafted reconstruction, and insightful interviews with Vivienne’s fascinating network of collaborators, guiding us on her journey from a childhood in post-war Derbyshire to the runways of Paris and Milan. Westwood is an intimate and poignant homage to a true cultural icon, as she fights to maintain her brand’s integrity, her principles and her legacy in a business driven by consumerism, profit and global expansion. Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist will be released in UK cinemas from 23 March by Dogwoof.

Monday 26 March - Jeune Femme Screening of the award-winning French film followed by a live Q&A with director Leonor Serraile and lead actress Laetitia Dosch. A young woman tried to reinvent herself after breaking up from a 10-year relationship in French director Leonor Serraille’s well-observed debut. Winner of the Camera d’Or at Cannes 2017.

Wednesday 25 April - Blame Screening of the critically acclaimed film Blame followed by a Q&A with 22-year old writer, director, producer and lead actress Quinn Shephard.

Chris Messina (Argo, Julie & Julia, The Mindy Project) stars as substitute drama teacher whose taboo relationship with an unstable student (Quinn Shephard) strikes a nerve in her jealous classmate (Nadia Alexander), sparking a vengeful chain of events within their suburban high school that draws parallels to Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Co-lead Nadia Alexander won the best actress prize at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.

Wednesday 30 May - still to be confirmed

Exclusive access will be available via Eventbrite in exchange for a £10 donation to Bulgari’s chosen charity, Save The Children.

Prior to the film, ticket holders can also enjoy canapés from 6.30pm, along with champagne and wines to be enjoyed at the screening room foyer. Each showing will commence at 7.15pm.

Highlighting and supporting intelligent, imaginative and inspiring female-focused projects and talent, Bulgari Hotel London is solidifying its commitment to the arts and its creative patronage of female talent.
