Regal Hotels on track to more than treble its hotel portfolio by 2019

Regal Hotels is on track to more than treble its portfolio of 12 hotels to reach 40 managed or owned hotels across Hong Kong and mainland China by 2019. The rapid growth strategy will be driven by the established Regal Hotel and Regal Residence brands but will be supported by a rollout of the group’s two newest brands - its innovative iclub concept and the new five-star premium luxury brand, Regal Royale.

Regal currently has five hotels in China and seven in Hong Kong. A further 12 are under development and due to open by 2016, including three additional iclub properties in Hong Kong - iclub Fortress Hill Hotel (2014); iclub Soho Hotel (2015); and iclub To Kwa Wan Hotel (2016). The first Regal Royale will open in Kunshan, China in 2016 with around 300 guestrooms and suites.

The group’s latest property to open its doors is the iclub Sheung Wan Hotel, which opened on June 26. The 248-room hotel is Regal’s second iclub and the first property in Hong Kong to offer guests the option of checking in and accessing their guestrooms using Mobile Key technology, saving precious time spent queuing and waiting. The opening followed the launch of the dedicated brand website and the renaming of its original iclub, the Regal iClub Hotel in Wan Chai Hong Kong, as the iclub Wan Chai Hotel in May.

Belinda Yeung, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Regal Hotels International, says developing the two new brands has enabled the company to grow faster by enabling it to consider more development opportunities and target a wider customer demographic.

“With its innovative use of technology, central city locations and sleek, modern designs the iclub brand is helping us to appeal to a wider audience, including young guests and business travellers,”

says Yeung. “In doing so it perfectly complements our portfolio of four and five-star Regal Hotels and Regal Residences, for which we’re well known in the UK market, enabling us to consider opening in more locations and reach new markets.

She adds: “Based on early feedback guests love not only the look and feel of our new iclub concept but the convenient city-centre locations and clever use of technology to enhance the guest experience. These are exciting times for Regal and we look forward to announcing new openings soon, including both iclubs and Regal Royales, as we look to grow our portfolio of brands across Hong Kong and mainland China to reach 40 hotels in the next few years.” 

Other common features of the iClub brand include Sweat Zone gym areas, free Wi-Fi, and 24/7 complimentary soft beverages in the iLounge areas. Sustainability is another core element of the brand, with iclub Wan Chai the first Carbon Neutral Hotel in Hong Kong.

Other new properties opening soon include Regal Airport Hotel in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province (2014); Regal Financial Center Hotel in Foshan, Guangdong Province (2015); Regal Yuhong Hotel in Zhengzhou, Henan province (2015); and Regal Xindu Hotel in Chengdu, Sichuan Province (2015).
