The Surrey launches summer art classes on private roof terrace

The Surrey summer art classes
Awaken your inner artist at The Surrey this summer with new, weekly art classes on the hotel’s private roof terrace. For the first time this Upper East Side doyenne will offer high-rise art tuition on the 17th floor, overlooking Central Park and the magnificent Manhattan skyline.

Inspired by The Surrey’s 31 piece contemporary art collection, which includes the iconic floor-to-ceiling tapestry of Kate Moss by famed photographer Chuck Close, the hotel’s newest venture further strengthens The Surrey’s reputation as New York’s Upper East Side art hotel.

Classes are available on select Saturday mornings throughout the summer for artists of any level including children ages 6+. Guests will embark on a voyage of discovery, taking inspiration from the ever-changing light and dramatic landscape, drawing from a real life model under the instruction of artist Anna LaFond, an alumni from the New York Academy of Art. Anna’s lively exploration of techniques from the traditional to the experimental will help guests see the world through the eyes of an artist.

The only hotel member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux group in New York City, The Surrey’s comfortable interiors, created by award-winning designer Lauren Rottet,  define that inimitable sense of New York style.

The Surrey’s Art Classes will be available for $50 per person for a one hour class ($25 for children under 12 years), including all necessary artists’ equipment and refreshments.* Rates at The Surrey start from £295 per night for a Grand Deluxe Salon

*Classes commence at 10:30am, subject to availability
**Available until 30 September 2014
