Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, introduces new Cinematic Tour, “The Great Beauty”

Inspired by Paolo Sorrentino’s 2014 Oscar and BAFTA winning movie, ‘La Grande Bellezza’, Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, the Eternal City’s most prestigious address has created a brand new cinematic tour: “The Great Beauty”.  Exploring picturesque Roman areas featured in the film, and a handful of secret hidden locations, this cultural excursion takes guests on a visual journey of some of Rome’s most beautiful sights.

Accompanied by Rome Cavalieri’s experienced and resident Art Historian, Alexandra Massini, guests will embark on a cinematic journey, recreating some of their favourite scenes from Sorrentino’s film.  The full day encompasses a private tour of Rome’s iconic sights, including the famous Colosseum, the Baths of Caracalla, and Villa Medici.

Kicking off with a morning visit to Fontana dell’Acqua Paola, the famed location of the movie’s opening scene featuring the protagonist Jep Gambardella (played by Tony Servillo), guests can soak up the magnificent marble fountain for themselves, before moving on to Bramante’s Tempietto at San Pietro, a stunning domed chapel which showcases some of the city’s impressive architecture.

After strolling across the River Tiber and sauntering along romantic cobblestones of the majestic Piazza Farnese, guests can explore the decadent apartments of the Renaissance palace of Marquis Sacchetti, which were used as the setting for Viola’s home – Jep’s aristocratic friend in the film. Refuel for the afternoon with a private rooftop reception at Palazzo Taverna where a refreshing aperitif or delicious lunch will be served to guests at the glamorous home of Marchioness Violante Guerrieri Gonzaga.

After wandering through Piazza Navona and exploring the historic Villa Medici and the ancient Baths of Caracalla, the tour will end on a Roman high with an unexpected discovery made through a hidden keyhole! Returning to the comfort and luxury of the Rome Cavalieri at the end of the day, guests will leave armed with a headful of historical and cinematic knowledge, as well as a newfound love for the city of Rome.
