Annabelle celebrates 30 Years as the first luxury hotel in Cyprus

Annabele hotel
Thanos Hotels has announced that Annabelle, five-star hotel in the small harbour city of Paphos, will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2015. The hotel is full of history – Alecos Michaelides, founder, bought the land in 1985 and Annabelle was built as the original hotel in the group, comprising of Annabelle, Almyra and Anassa, Today, his son Thanos and daughters Natasha and Anna manage the hotel group.

Built as the first luxury hotel in Cyprus, Annabelle has established itself as an icon over the last three decades. The stunning seaside hotel has continually reinvented itself over time, maintaining its exclusive hospitality throughout and remaining a Cypriot favourite of both local and international guests.

Before the land was developed into one of Cyprus' landmarks, hard groundwork was necessary. Although there were difficulties in the early 1970s in establishing Paphos as a destination for European travel agents, Alecos persisted. Today, Annabelle offers 218 rooms, glittering free-form pools and lush tropical gardens. The hotel was built in stages, with the main building and first rooms being developed in 1985, followed by the second wing and the grotto in 1987 and the waterfall in 1989. Natasha Michaelides, Communications Director, recalls: "During the last days of completion my father was on site for hours, encouraging the builders to finish this ambitious project in time."

A pioneer in the luxury hotel industry in Cyprus, some admiringly named the hotel the "University of Paphos". Alecos recruited staff from the region and trained them, introducing culture and cuisine as the focus of the hotel. This concept attracted more and more luxury travellers, who until then had rarely visited Cyprus and Paphos. Occupancy, rate and booking levels were broken and today, over 35% of visitors are return guests, consisting of individuals, families and golfers, who appreciate the seaside location, close proximity to Paphos harbor and year-round sunshine.

This July, Annabelle will host a celebration for its staff and guests. Three gala dinners will take place on 17 May, 22 July and 16 October and for couples celebrating their Pearl wedding anniversary, the hotel has created a special package to include upgraded accommodation, a candlelit dinner for two at Amorosa, his and hers personalised Annabelle bathrobes as well as other surprise amenities. To celebrate its 30 years of heritage and memories, a brand new website will be launched containing a video showcasing the hotel, as well as images of the 30th anniversary exhibition which will be on display in the Ariadne room. Alongside the new website, Thanos Diaries will also cover the momentous occasion so that memories can be shared both near and far.

Almyra's award-winning Almyraspa, located adjacent to Annabelle, will be offering tailored treatments for those celebrating their 30th birthday or wedding anniversary during their stay at Annabelle. The treatments include a back, neck and shoulder massage for men followed by a cleansing seaweed facial, whilst women will enjoy an ila anti-ageing facial treatment comprising a head massage and a blended honey and stem cell face mask. For couples celebrating their wedding anniversary, the Double Indulgence Massage will ease muscle tension and calm the mind, all the while taking in the spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
