VISITFLANDERS wins best Stand Design at World Travel Market 2016

VISITFLANDERS has won the Best Stand Design Award at World Travel Market 2016, following a judging decision by an independent jury. The panel made up from directors, partners and executives from Intuitive Design,, Tours Research and Marketing (TRAM) and Travel Perspective were particularly impressed by the café culture look as well as depictions of typical culture available in the region. The judges also liked a clear photographic panel to identify all the stand exhibitors on arrival.

The stand was a new concept and look, designed especially for this year’s event by Brussels-based designers, MO KA following a brief to create a simple but effective design which best displayed the unique qualities of ‘Flanders State of the Art’. The new stand design has kept uses concepts and products that are authentically Flemish, such as vibrant stand furniture by Buzzy Space (from Antwerp), chocolates by Reen (located near Leuven) and beer from iconic Belgian Brewery, Palm. Rolling video footage of key Flemish icons such as Gastronomy, Cycling, Festivals and Flemish Masters portray typical scenes that guests can look forward to when visiting Flanders.

The stand’s design depicts an artist’s atelier, reminiscent of where some of the Flanders’ world-renowned painters would have created their masterpieces of art. ‘Flemish Masters’ will be the centrepiece of VISITFLANDERS’ global promotions in the coming years, with three years of special events and exhibitions as well as a number of new visitor centres; in 2018, the spotlight will be on Rubens, and the Baroque City of Antwerp, in 2019, the 450th anniversary of the death of Bruegel will be marked with exhibitions in Brussels, Antwerp and the Pajottenland, whilst in 2020, the restoration of Van Eyck’s Ghent Altarpiece will be completed, and it will return to its original home in St Bavo’s Cathedral, Ghent.

VISITFLANDERS’ award-winning stand at WTM also has nods to other key elements of Flanders’ offer to visitors, including an Eddy Merckx bike and some of the delicious food and drink from across the region. Visitors to the Stand are invited to find out more about the Flemish Masters Programme 2018-2020, commemorative events for the Great War Centenary in 2017 and 2018 as well as cycling, gastronomy and other events taking place across Flanders. The stand is located in the North Hall, EU1520.
