The Royal York Hotel scoops two gongs at the Visit York Tourism Awards

The Royal York Hotel
The newly refurbished Royal York Hotel walked away with Hotel of the Year and Conference Venue of the Year at last night’s prestigious Visit York Tourism Awards.
The awards, which are now in their 19th year, aim to celebrate individuals and companies who offer that extra special service and experience for York’s 6.8 million visitors.

The Royal York Hotel re-opened earlier this year after a multi-million pound renovation which saw all 159 bedrooms and public areas, as well as conference and event spaces, completely renovated. The investment also saw the addition of a new destination restaurant, The Refectory Kitchen & Terrace and cocktail bar, The Chapter House.

The hotel’s enviable conference and event centre, which boats its own entrance and reception, houses 11 flexible event spaces including the main event centre space, which can comfortably accommodate up to 410 delegates theatre-style or 180 cabaret-style, making it a popular choice for corporate conferences. The other meeting rooms include the Grade-II listed Oak Room with traditional, restored wood-panelling for a stylish and grand backdrop to corporate events and private parties.

Richard Mansell, general manager at The Royal York, commented: “We were absolutely thrilled to win two awards at last night’s black tie dinner. To be named Hotel of the Year and Conference Venue of the Year is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team over the past 18 months.”

Kate McMullen, Head of Tourism at Make It York, said: “For our tourism sector to be successful York needs exceptional people, as well as exceptional businesses and this is what these tourism awards celebrate. Our panel of independent judges has spent many hours analysing the entrants supported by a dedicated team of mystery shoppers. It is a testament to the quality of businesses in York that we’ve seen such a high standard this year and such close scoring. We’d like to congratulate all our winners and finalists.”
