The Dorchester awarded for ‘Excellence in Promoting Careers’ at 2016 HR in Hospitality Awards

Iconic British hotel, The Dorchester, part of Dorchester Collection, has been honoured with ‘Excellence in Promoting Careers’ at the 2016 HR in Hospitality Awards held on Friday 30 September.
The award was made in recognition of the iconic British hotel’s Management Graduate Programme, launched in March 2015, which has seen a total of 22 graduates trained by The Dorchester and 18 graduates move into permanent leadership positions.

Area director of human resources Beth Aarons commented: “We strive to provide the finest hotel experience in the world, not just for our guests but also for the employees who are attracted to come and work at one of the world’s leading luxury hotels. It is fantastic to receive this recognition for the Management Graduate Programme, proving that this is the best start to a career in hospitality that a graduate can hope for.”

Graduates are provided a senior mentor, tailored training workshops, and invited to join an 18 month intense training programme, during which they have the opportunity to work across three different departments and performance improvement projects. Experiences have included the launch of new food & beverage outlet, Parcafe, and a new innovative three hour laundry service.

This is the 21st year of the HR in Hospitality Awards, which features seven categories judged by senior experts from a cross section of the hospitality sector. The ‘Excellence in Promoting Careers’ award is judged on the HR team’s strategy, how it was devised and implemented, involvement and collaboration with other functions and what results have been achieved. The award particularly highlighted The Dorchester’s creative approach to meeting the needs of an ever changing youth market.

Chair of HR in Hospitality Esther O’Halloran commented: “The Dorchester’s strategic review of its talent attraction programme has placed it as the number one choice for attracting and rewarding talented graduates from a range of the best educational establishments. Its programme should be a leading example to all businesses, not just the hospitality sector.”
