Sundial Chef scoops 2nd place at European Copper Skillet Competition

Mitchell Leech, Senior Chef de Partie at Sundial Group’s Warwickshire venue, Woodside, has scooped 2nd place at the 2015 European Copper Skillet Junior Competition, run by the International Association of Conference Centres (IACC).
As UK Copper Skillet Champion, Leech earned his place in the European Finals held at The Comwell Conference Centre in Denmark on Wednesday 25th February.

Competing against chefs from France, Denmark and Sweden, he took part in the ‘cook off’ final where each chef was given 30 minutes to prepare a dish from a mystery basket of proteins, dairy and grocery items.  

Leech was awarded 2nd place in the junior heat for his dish which was marinated supreme of chicken served with a wild mushroom, bacon and baby spinach risotto, finished with chargrilled asparagus.  

The popular Copper Skillet Competition was introduced in 2004 to highlight the artistry and skill of the best chefs from IACC member conference centres around the world and to honour their contributions to the shared goal of providing an outstanding conference centre experience.  

Sundial Group’s Operations Director and General Manager at Woodside, Jerry Toth, who accompanied Leech on the trip to Copenhagen, said:  

“I am extremely proud of Mitchell for his success in the UK Copper Skillet Competition and for being awarded second place in the tough European final. It’s fantastic to fly the flag for the UK and for Sundial Group.”
