The Chief Financial Officer of Stratajet, Lee was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the FD Profession, as judged by a panel of industry experts.
Since joining Stratajet, the world’s first real-time private jet booking platform, in June 2015, Lee has built the entire finance function from scratch, positioned the business for investment and successfully closed Series A funding (£5M) from leading venture capital investors.
Under Lee’s influence, the value of the company has almost doubled within 12 months and since the brand launch last April, Stratajet has grown to be a multi-million pound business.
Furthermore, Lee is highly active in the London tech start-up community, via mentoring of younger Accountants, lecturing at General Assembly, plus founding a networking group of over 90 Finance Directors/CFOs from London’s most promising technology start-ups. This group acts as invaluable resource to fellow FDs in the community.
The DOF Awards (The DOFscars) recognise the seasoned professionals and rising stars from across the financial management profession. Created by Zinc Media, publishers of Director Of Finance magazine, the event champions the most innovative, vigorous and dynamic teams and individuals who have exceeded expectations.
David Lee, CFO of Stratajet, said: “It is a huge honour to be recognised by my peers with the Outstanding Contribution to the FD Profession Award. Building Stratajet’s finance function, whilst developing and implementing a commercial strategy aligned with the long-term milestones of the business has been and continues to be challenging yet exciting and deeply rewarding. I have been lucky enough to join a vibrant company, which boasts an inspirational team and a product that allows us to bring huge benefits to our customers.”
Jonny Nicol, Founder & CEO of Stratajet, commented: “David was brought into Stratajet at a crucial point of the company’s execution. David fully deserves this recognition for FD excellence because, during his very short tenure, his financial leadership and commercial acumen have been the driving forces that have successfully steered our company through major milestones, such as Series A funding. David strikes that fine balance of bringing in financial rigour whilst allowing an entrepreneurial business to flourish.”
The Editor of Director Of Finance, Katy Ward, added: “The judges and the Zinc Media team were incredibly impressed by David’s contribution to the finance profession – both in the past 13 months at Stratajet and throughout his entire career. During the past decade, he has led a number of high-growth entrepreneurial start-ups and provided a robust voice in this dynamic field. David’s role in almost doubling the value of the company in the past 12 months has been a phenomenal accomplishment. Having this kind of impact on an organisation is the true hallmark of an innovator and a leader.”
